A foodie guide to Positano, Italy: My Top 3 Restaurants

Positano is one of the few places that I have visited that I would go back to a thousand times. It is such a beautiful, small Amalfi Coast town with the friendliest people and some of the best food.

My friend and I visited in early March, right before their busy season began. While it wasn’t the warmest, I would not have done this trip any other way. The weather was still beautiful and we were still able to tan and swim in the chilly ocean, but most of all: there was practically no one there. We felt like we had the city to ourselves and it was so awesome compared to the videos we had scene on social media of all the people and crowds during tourist season.

While the non-busy season meant some restaurants were closed, this did not stop us from finding some of the most delicious little family owned restaurants in town.

The hotel we stayed at was Dimora del Podesta, the cutest little family owned boutique hotel. Because of the non-tourist season, we were able to book a beautiful room with a balcony over looking the ocean for so cheap. The staff was so friendly, gave us tons of recommendations, and provided us breakfast each morning!

Ristorante Mediterraneo

The first restaurant we dined at (and ended up coming again), was right next door to our hotel and owned by the same family, called Ristorante Mediterraneo. They gave us complimentary champagne to start, explained in detail each item on the menu, and made all of their pastas, sauces, etc. in house.

Both nights I got the seafood pasta and it was out of this world. Their tiramisu was the best I’ve ever had, and of course we ended the night with some free limoncello.

I cannot say enough great things not only about the food, but the staff. Coming from Paris where servers were not the most friendly, it was so refreshing to receive some of the best hospitality and service we had ever been given.

L’Incanto

Next up: L’Incanto. We discovered this little bar/restaurant while laying on the beach. Sitting along the beach with easy access was this yummy spot we had lunch at. They served more Sicilian style pizza, which was nice because it wasn’t an entire pizza per serving - making it the perfect lunch spot. We of course got the burrata caprese with some of the freshest, juiciest tomatoes I have ever had.

Aside from the food, I would say the best thing about this place was their frozen daquiris! All throughout my time in Europe we never really found a place that had traditional frozen Pina coladas or strawberry daiquiris, but this place did and they were so amazing and fun to have on our beach day!

Chez Black

Finally, Chez Black. This place is extremely well known on social media and for good reason! To this day it is the best pizza I have ever had. We ate here 2 days - both for lunch. The first day I got the Margherita pizza (best in my life) and the second day I got their seafood pasta. Being from Charleston, I was loving all this fresh seafood I was having!

The vibes here were great, also right along the beach with beautiful views of the ocean and great people watching. They also have a gelato shop inside for a little post-meal treat!
